The University of Zaragoza hosted the first workshop aiming at presenting the progress of the BATT-Ex project. Entitled “Workshop on battery optimization in OFF-GRID installations", this session allowed the technical staff of the Ebro and Tagus AHIS networks to know the results and progress obtained so far directly related to the improvement in the operation and maintenance of the batteries belonging to the photovoltaic stations.

The experimental analysis and the tests carried out under the project have brought to light interesting questions regarding the performance of lead acid and nickel cadmium batteries, as well as the voltage cut-offs currently performed and the effect of temperature on the load voltage, among others. These results were presented by the University of Mondragón in the first set of the morning session. The second one dealt with issues related to the batteries maintenance and handling.

During the afternoon session, the University presented the diagnosis and classification of facilities according to typology, as well as the study of needs, state-of-the-art solutions, sizing and simulation tool, different designs studied until the implementation architecture and the laboratory prototype solution developed were selected.

Undoubtedly, the holding of this workshop has recorded the important progress that is being made as a result of this project, giving rise to the definition of new lines of research in the Energy Efficiency business line.

The final version of the prototype is expected to be available from September 2018.
