ITS system for the I-595 corridor improvement project

Corredor I-595

The I595 Project is a 10.5 mile corridor from I-75/ Sawgrass Expressway interchange to the I-595/ I-95 interchange in Central Broward county. Improvements of the I595 range from the construction of braided exit/entrance ramps between SR84 and I595, to the addition of three reversible express lanes in the middle of the corridor.

The main objective of the express lanes is to improve the mobility of the corridor, especially during peak traffic hours, by allowing vehicles to travel either west during the morning rush and east during the afternoon rush.

The project consists of the design, installation, testing, integration, operation and maintenance of communication and information technology for transportation applications including a Toll Gantry that will charge non-exempt vehicles using the managed lanes to reduce travel times.

The project included the installation, testing and integration of traffic signals, vehicle detection and surveillance components; as well as the installation of vehicle detectors and Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) to provide information to the user. Furthermore, the project involves the implementation of communications infrastructure and the integration of software applications necessary to operate the ITS equipment, as well as the design and implementation of the power distribution and supply.
