SICE is awarded the renewal of the Comprehensive Maintenance of the Ground Segment of fiber optic cable of the SAM-1 system in Guatemala
Sociedad Ibérica de Construcciones Eléctricas (SICE) is awarded the renewal of the Comprehensive Maintenance of the Ground Segment of fiber optic cable of the SAM-1 system in Guatemala, whose main objective is to minimize service disruptions, thus achieving high availability of the signal.
The ground section of the cable circulates mainly by underground channels and through different communities of the Guatemalan country, but also has some sections of overhead lines.
The SAM-1 system responds to a project initiated in the year 2000 with the aim of connecting via a submarine cable of four fiber pairs (SAM-1) several countries in North and South America (United States, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Guatemala initially, and from 2007 also Ecuador and Colombia).
SICE already participated in this first phase of the project with the installation of several landing stations in different countries, among which are two in Guatemala (located in Puerto San Jose and Puerto Barrios).
